Deliverect Makes Wok Wok Southeast Asian Kitchen a Happier Place

New Yorkers are no strangers to Chinese food, but Southeast Asian cuisine is a different kettle of fish (soup). Wok Wok brings the vibrant colors, enticing aromas, and lively babble of a Malaysian street food market to Manhattan’s Chinatown. It is a fresh taste for hungry city dwellers with the world’s cuisines at their fingertips.

Rafael Matos, Operations Manager at Wok Wok, tells the story of the Chen family, who founded the brand in 2015: 

“They came to the United States to open up a restaurant to bring their style of home cooking right in the middle of Chinatown,” he reveals, adding “Wok Wok is mostly Malaysian food. The bestseller is the white curry laksa and also the prawn noodle soup.” 

With so many cuisines in the city, Wok Wok stood out for its bold flavors and unique Malaysian and Thai home cooking tastes. And as Rafael explains, delivery orders have been essential to Wok Wok since the beginning.

“[We have all] different types of food here in New York, but the Southeast Asian food is completely different. Delivery has been going on between seven and eight years.”

Deliverect streamlines Wok Wok’s order management to eliminate human error

Operating on multiple delivery platforms, including GrubHub, Uber Eats, and DoorDash, Wok Wok had to manage orders from different sources. The team had numerous issues with the equipment they were using. As Rafael puts it: “Deliveries test us with new challenges.”

As delivery orders increased during a time when people weren’t allowed to dine out, Deliverect helped overcome these problems by consolidating all the delivery orders into one platform. Now, the orders from every platform are sent straight to the POS and onto the kitchen in one consistent format.

“Before Deliverect, it was bad. The machine did not print the order. The kitchen would not have the order coming so I needed to go to the kitchen to check. We need the time to accept [it on] that machine to print again.”

Using Deliverect leads to more sales, a happy kitchen & happy customers

Deliverect has impacted the entire operation from the ease of service at the front of the house to the lack of errors in the kitchen, to the customers receiving the orders faster.

“Wok Wok’s delivery is very important,” Rafael explains, “We were able to get more orders out the best we can, the faster we can so the customer can be happy with their orders.” 

With the new efficient system, there was more time and flexibility to test different menu items. This was made even more accessible with Deliverect’s menu editing tools, allowing the team to edit menus from one dashboard and instantly push out the updates to all the delivery platforms. 

Rafael adds: “With deliveries, we tested new menus. We can reach more customers, increase deliveries, and maybe increase sales.” 

He says Deliverect has made the whole restaurant happier: “It has been a lot better, and delivery just went up the roof – we are happy with it.”
